Esa-Pekka Salonen leads the Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy in three concerts in Essen, Dortmund and Cologne with works by Sibelius and Messiaen as well as his own composition Foreign Bodies.

The concert on 24 February will be broadcast on 26 February by Deutschlandradio.

Esa-Pekka Salonen appears regularly at the Konzerthaus Dortmund, where he is artist-in-residence from 2010 to 2013. This residency with the motto “Expedition Salonen” weaves his life as conductor, composer and creator into the fabric of the Konzerthaus Dortmund’s artistic concept.

The MCO Academy was created through a collaboration between the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Orchesterzentrum|NRW in Dortmund with the goal of offering the next generation of orchestral musicians education and training. For the annual MCO Academy concerts, students are chosen through an audition process to play together with the members of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, gaining practical experience under the batons of internationally-renowned conductors.
