Kimmo Korhonen: In Meeting for clarinet and harpsichord, Salonen has progressed from the meditative Expressionism of Berg and Schönberg to a freer and more vivacious Modernism. On the other hand, the rapid and at times almost hysterically convulsive figures bear a distant relationship to Minimalism. Meeting is emphatically a duo work, focusing on the relationship between the two instruments, the problem of the 'meeting' mentioned in the title.
